Knitting

This is the beginning of a shawl I'm making for my cousin Kim. It's going to take a while to finish, I think. I wish I could take my knitting to work...

Knitting Needle Case

For some reason I decided to make a case for my needles. I had a machine-made one, but it sucked and didn't hold my circulars anyway. I got the rough pattern from kissyourshadow.com, and added and changed a couple of things. I had forgotten how much I loved sewing! And now I hopefully will be able to keep track of all my knitting stuff.

I need more yarn...

Toque of 2008/Cupcake toque

This is the toque of 2008. I still need to finish. I started at the bottom working up, doing a cable pattern, then finished the crown, and now I'm going to take off the scrap blue yarn and work down to finish it, and to put on some earflaps using short rows. Though I need more yarn, as I ran out. It's totally an experiment, as I'm not using a pattern.

Fiz, the plushie

This is the back of an unfinished Fiz. I got this far and decided I didn't really like how I was doing the crests (the grey stuff that's still just pinned on). I think I'll just go with what I've done though, because it's obviously hand-made anyway. And I just want it done. But I am in love with Fiz's green tendrils. I stuffed pipe-cleaners into a tube that I sewed. I would have liked to not have the seam on the outside, but I couldn't reverse them, and I don't think it looks bad anyway.

The front of Fiz.

The Journal
I finally finished it! Well, mostly anyway. Just needs some internal embellishment, and then it's good to go.

A view of the book open. Yeah you can see my not-so-good binding job, with the paper tearing. Because I made it too thick, I had to rip out one of the signatures and so the binding's all crap now.

More to the side, closed.

Showing the cover. It was my first attempt at embroidery and beading.

Recent craftiness

For the first weekend (not including my christmas vacation) since class started, I haven't had to work. It's weird. I have nothing to do because it's too early in the term for homework. So all I've done today is finish reading a book and some shopping. I didn't really buy anything either, just some thread to sew up Fiz.

Ken bought me a sewing machine for Christmas. I've wanted to make so many things, but I can't seem to find the right fabrics for the rights prices. Oh well. I guess I'll keep looking. Thus far I have made most of a Fiz, and I worked a prototype for a bag. It turned out okay even though I made it wrong and just eyeballed the cutting. It's way more fun to experiment than to follow a pattern. Well, sometimes anyway. So here is a photo of the as-yet unfinished Fiz.

I've also been working on binding a journal for the past... 6 months or so. I wanted to do a fabric cover for it and was procrastinating hand-sewing it. It's not done yet either, but here are some pics:

the front (I'm embroidering plant type things on the cover. I'll probably be doing something similar for the spine):

open, showing the (too-loose) binding.

showing the cardboard covers and general construction:

I'll probably also make a beaded imbedded bookmark. Now I just need to find a way to make the inside all nice and pretty... and, of course, finish it :)

And to end with a random thought, I think I want to go back to light-coloured hair, but I don't know if that's possible now that my hair is very dark.
