More socks!

Socks for my mom. She requested slippers, but I'm sick of making those. Socks are way more fun! And hopefully she'll like them just as much. I made these out of special sock yarn bought from a local store. Expensive! As you can see, I'm not quite done yet. I burned my fingers baking cookies today, otherwise they'd be finished by now. Pattern is from here

Update: finished these, but no new pictures.

Scarf

Since they moved to a darn cold place, I figured Andrew and Jenna could use some warm things, so, thick warm crocheted scarf for Jenna! Just hdc all the way. Modelled by the ever so cute Jerry.

The pie hat

This is the hat I made for Eryn for Christmas. I conjured up this pattern because I thought the idea of cables that decreased in size as they went along was kind of neat. I may write up this pattern for use later. Can be worn as a beret or toque style.

I've had this idea for a while, but only got around to it now. I wanted to make this a christmas present and I still might. But they're so cute, I want to keep them! ^_^

Amigurumi Dragonet

I've been working on this little guy since August, I think. I'm not sure I like making such small things. He's 2 inches tall, and there are so many little pieces to make and sew on. But I guess that's my own fault for deciding to make it all in little pieces instead of bigger pieces. I think I may put out a pattern for this, but I will change some things first, such as the wings and arms (which just look like little blobs to me). I'm going to try and make the legs, body, and tail all in one piece and see how that works out. I'll probably change the wings to felt wings, and make the head and muzzle one piece. I think I've got a lot to learn about simplifying my designs.

Pixie Hat

I felt like making a hat, so... I made a hat. I think it's cute. Pattern from April Draven. Crocheted using blue Red Heart eco-yarn recycled yarn (so soft!) and white Bernat alpaca yarn. It was going to only be blue, but I ran out just before finishing, so I chose white, and embroidered it to blend in.

Crochet Doily

I like trying to make new things, and one day I was inspired to make something using a steel crochet hook and fine thread. So I made a doily. Doilies are quite nice, actually. I think this one's going to my grandma for Christmas. Made using this pattern. Please excuse the threads sticking out, I haven't quite yet figured out how to weave those in without ruining the design.

TOTORO!

I finally finished him! Yes, though he is pink, he is a he. If you've never seen it, you should watch My Neighbor Totoro. It's by Miyazaki, the same guy who did Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and a bunch of others. Anyway it is a great movie.

The pattern is from here.

Materials used: some sort of on-sale wool from Italy, alpaca yarn, felt, embroidery thread, cat brush to brush wool.

Finished! It didn't take me that long, probably because I did some every day. I like it, but I'm not quite sure what to do with it now. Maybe I'll make a pillow out of it.

Here's what I'm working on next:

Should be done soon, just need to put the eyes and arms on! I'm so excited about this one.

Tickets are booked, time off has been given. Looks like I'm heading up north for the week preceding my birthday. Silly me, I've still got negative funds. What am I thinking, really?

In other news, a new yarn store has opened up in town, called Ellie Bay Yarn & Shoe Repair. I can't wait to go see what they've got, but I should probably have money before I do, because I just know I'm going to spend money there. Provided the prices are decent, of course.

I also made a trip to the library and found a new project to do. It's from this book:

I've got most of the supplies for a falcon design, I just need a few more colors of floss. Another thing that'll have to wait until I get some more money. Ah well, I've got lots to do otherwise.

Tree

Excuse the crappy picture. This is the tree from the backyard in Saskatoon, except stylized. Look close, there's a bird and some seed things in there too. Ah, black and white is my friend.

Knit Dragon WIP 3

2:38 PM 4 Comments A+ a-

Finished the enormous legs! I love giant feet. They might be a bit too giant though. I think also that the arms will have to be bigger. Other than that I'm happy with it.

Next to do: figure out what I did and write up a pattern, so I can make another one and make it all pretty looking.

Up early on a nice day isn't so bad.

At my new job, I like the people but the work kind of sucks. Fortunately I will only be experiencing small doses of it at one time. I'm now a cashier, able to ring people through on my own and everything. Yay.

Fortunately the second half of my shift today cancelled out the anger of the first half. The computer modules nearly made me angry enough to walk out. Not because the computer was acting up or anything, but because of the content. It just pissed me off.

I think I'll survive this. I'll just have to distract myself with my hobbies instead.

I'm working on my knitted dragon again. I've got the wings finished and the pattern written down, now all I have to do is design a foot. Shouldn't be too hard, right? I guess we'll see.

New cross-stitch project

5:13 PM 4 Comments A+ a-

A little while ago I needed something to do while at my parents' house, so my mom handed me a stocking to cross-stitch. Originally it was to be for my brother, but it has since been relegated to my future spouse. This may be bad luck, though I can't finish it until I have a name to put on it. At any rate, it's an interesting design that I quite like.

Taa-daa! All done. Now I just need to get it framed. I figure it will look nice in a nursery. Now all I've got to do is have a baby. Ha!

Castle and Dragon Cross Stitch

Took me a few years, but I finally finished it. It was a pain, with almost all of the stitches being half stitches and blended colours.

Chibi Witches Cross Stitch

This was a cute design I found at a local grocery store. Of Asian origin, obviously.

My mom bought me a beautiful cross stitch to do when I was about 13. I did some of it then, but gave up after I started getting interested in other things. Now I am finally doing it again! Here's what I've done so far:

The original colours were somewhat different. I believe it was changed to blue because it would match my room at the time. Ah well. I still like it. I just need some more gold thread and then I'll be able to finish it.

Lately I've been crocheting more than knitting. Weird, no? I've done a few granny squares, and I think I'll turn them into an afghan. It's so much quicker than knitting.

Anyway, I found a pattern for a doll, and it was so great I had to make it. (do all my crafting stories begin like this?) I had no skin colour though, so she's green. The pattern is Free Spirit Amigurumi Doll by Beth. I think she'll be a nature spirit/dryad type of thing. Anyway, she still needs eyelids and hair and clothes, and her head needs to be sewed on, but this is she:

And just because, a picture of my eye. I now do not know what colour my eyes are. Blue-green-yellow? I guess that adds up to green, but it's more complex than that. Ah well. (Ignore the wrinkly skin. I think that's just from dryness (I HOPE!))

Bo-Peep gloves

8:59 PM 0 Comments A+ a-

A little under a year ago I found a pattern (bo-peep glove pattern) for these beautiful lace fingerless gloves, which I just had to knit. I used a bamboo yarn of some sort. (I lost the label since I bought it a year ago) Finally this month I actually made them. They were a bit tricky, and the pattern had a lot of errata in it, but I figured it out anyway. The gloves are pretty but impractical. Perhaps suitable for... a tea party? I don't know.

He's got a body and arms! Progress is going slow, but well. I've designed the wing, I just need to make another and stitch them on.

What I'm working on...

11:18 AM 2 Comments A+ a-

After seeing all sorts of cute amigurumi things, I decided to make an amigurumi dragon! Of course I'm not as well-versed in crochet as knitting, so instead of crocheting, I'm knitting it!

Here's a preview:

I've only got the head (minus the eyes, which are still in the mail) and most of the body done so far, and work on this project has been postponed because I've come down with a cold (though this hasn't hampered my ability to be on the computer).

I can't wait to get this done! It's going to be awesome. I'm thinking of either selling customised versions or the pattern, because I think people are going to want this.

Pulsations socks

12:59 PM 0 Comments A+ a-

Finally knitted something for myself, a new pair of socks! I had to knit socks because my brother got me some wonderful sock knitting needles for Christmas (although I later found a non-sock use for them...)

Pattern from here.

Finished socks:

In use! (I cropped my other foot because it looked ridiculous)
